Design Trends 2017: Bright & Bold Colours

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

Out with the old and in with the bold!! 2017 is all about personality and what better way to stand out from the crowd than to inject  bold, bright and lively colour into your brand.

Over the past few years, many brands have utilised flat, safe and simple colour schemes. This trend of clean, white and controlled design, led by the tech giants, has now become so saturated that brands are opting for bolder and brighter colours.

Some companies have already been doing this for a while like Spotify. They are using a combination of bold popping colours (duotones) to create edgy, in-your-face designs.

We’ve also seen this in Instagram’s redesign with its brightly colored gradient app icon. This vibrant use of color has become part of their brand and it’s instantly recognizable.

Vibrant colours are about making a statement. It doesn’t mean that every company has to undergo a colour revolution. Adding a touch of bold colour accents can add a fresh new look to an existing brand.

The vibrant color trend is on the rise as bright colours look amazing on all kinds of designs: packaging, branding, posters, web design etc.

As a source of inspiration, here is a selection of stunning bright colours in use:

The Bright & Bold Colours trend looks great combined with other design trends such as Patterns & Textures and Hand-Drawn Lettering.
